Eat, drink and be scary!
– Spooky Unknown Person
When you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first...
– Unknown
((Amen to that. I’m trying for everything today. Let’s hope it works out for the best, no matter what.))
For the love of lofts...
I think my very first obsession with lofts came back when I used to watch that godawful sitcom ”My Two Dads” back in the 80’s. Okay, so it was definitely a stupid show that was way too typical of that wacky decade—-so Greg Evigan seemed like the perfect gay boyfriend for John Stamos and the whole premise was ridiculous and the gal who starred in the show seemed shockingly...
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.
– Oscar Wilde
Halloween through the years...
So Al and I finally decided on our Halloween costumes this year, and just as I suspected, the easy option of being a naughty nun and pervy priest was our final vote. It probably helped that these were the cheapest couple costumes we found on the market, but I digress—-we plan on simply hitting a few parties friends are throwing and then ending this Saturday night’s haunted activities...
Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men’s blood…Make...
– Daniel H. Burnham
((After a day yesterday of simple, boring recovery, I can’t wait to get out today and get some things done before class tonight, and then a dinner party. Back on the mend and ready for those big plans then!))
The ghosts of jobs past...
You know, talking about my time spent working at Dillards got me musing back to my other many, many,MANY jobs in my life. I’ve been working since I was age 15! And to look back at my assorted gigs over the years has truly been a potpourri of various adventures thus far…with that in mind, here’s a gander at the many different((and often embarrassing)) job titles I’ve held...
God places the heaviest burden on those who can carry its weight.
– Reggie White
((What a burden indeed! After a surgery that included me being shot with a “deadening” agent that basically made me feel like I’d just drank 4 pots of coffee while dropping acid at a rave, I now feel as draggy as a dishrag and my nether region feels as carved up as a...
My manic Monday...
No new posts today because it was a longggg Monday…first at 7:30am, shadowing at a potential new school all day, meeting over lunch, and finally presenting an art lesson. Then, meeting up with my friend Maria and other pals for some chatting, since she’s back in town this week from Ecuador. Then, hanging a bit with her hubs Roberto and taking Maria back to my place for some din-din...
Favorite Partyfood
So after pondering why there weren’t more of our personal partyfood faves at the big event last night, I started to consider some of my own fave fingerfoods. Aren’t hors d’oeuvres just the greatest food known to man? But when hors d’oeuvres aren’t tasty or creative((or are laughably disguised as chips and dip)), it can be rather unsettling for a typically hungry party...
Sunday is the golden clasp that binds together the volume of the week
– Henry Wadworth
((Thank you, golden clasp! And now I shall bind the week together and prepare for a megabusy Monday…))
Life is a wretched gray Saturday, but it has to be lived through.
– Anthony Burgess
((I wouldn’t say this Saturday is “wretched” since I’m FINALLY getting my hair done for a big night tonight, but it is rather gray!))
The thing about job interviews...
..is that I can’t stand doing them. Absolutely loathe and detest them. But who really does enjoy job interviews, right? It’s simply one of those necessary evils in life we all have to endure for obvious reasons. For the interviewers or interviewees alike it’s just a brutal process all around…but how else do you find that perfect job or locate that perfect worker?
I have a...
There are three ingredients in the good life: learning, earning and yearning.
– Christopher Morley
The key to change…is to let go of fear.
– Rosanne Cash
((Truth be told, I’ve fended off a lot of fear lately…fear of failing. Fear of never digging myself out of my own perceived holes. Fear of not being accepted. Fear of fear within that I simply don’t understand. Fear of sickness and dying. But with positive change must...
The latest and not so greatest...
So, it looks like I have to have surgery this Tuesday to remove pre-cancerous cells from my cervix. My doc called with the results today, and basically, I’m Stage 2, possibly Stage 3, which means I need to get those areas removed before they possibly go into a cancerous state. And no one wants ovarian cancer even less than moi, of course. My doc compared the process to a malignant mole that...
More of Al making horrible jokes...
Sheryl: I can't believe we're sitting here watching a pumpkin carving contest.
Al: What's happened to the Food Network?
Sheryl: What's happened to my life?!
Al: And I don't even wanna know how they picked these judges. A "Halloween Expert"?!
Sheryl: How does a guy even get to be a "Halloween Expert"?
Al: I guess he had to date the right GHOUL-friend!
Sheryl: That was horrible.
Al: MWAHAHAH!!!
Sheryl: Yeah. No more, please.
The men who try to do something and fail are infinitely better than those who...
– Lloyd James
((Even when I feel like I have *no* chance, I still like to go after certain opportunities, if they’re remotely within my grasp. If you can dream it, why can’t you do it? And would any of our modern miracles really have been accomplished if man had not been bold enough to...
